Visit to Coventry

Coventry Cathedral

On arrival we will take a guided tour of Coventry Cathedral, designed by architect Sir Basil Spence, where we will hear about the history of the ruins, the Blitz, Basil Spence's vision and the building of the new Cathedral and explore in person the work of the many commissioned artists, from Piper to Sutherland, to Epstein, Hutton, Frink and others, who caught the vision and spirit in the rebuilding of this symbol of hope and reconciliation after the destruction in 1940.

Following time for lunch in one of the nearby City restaurants we will meet up with our Blue Badge Guide for a 1.5 hour guided walking tour of the city and discover how - remarkably - there is more left of medieval Coventry than might be expected after the destruction leashed on the city during World War II.

There may even be time afterwards for Afternoon Tea in St. Mary's Guildhall.....
