Eltham Palace and Ranger's House
Outside Visit
15 June 2023
Eltham Palace
Eltham, once a medieval palace then a Tudor residence, was transformed by the Courtauld family into a striking Art Deco mansion in the 1930s. The gardens are a mix of medieval and modern, with pools and cascades running down to the moat.
We will have a guided tour of the palace. Afterwards, lunch can be bought in the palace or the town.
We then travel to the nearby Ranger's House, an elegant Georgian villa on the boundary of Greenwich Park and Blackheath which houses the Werner Collection, a world-class art collection amassed by the 19th-century businessman Sir Julius Wernher of over 700 works of art. It is displayed across a dozen panelled interiors and considered one of the greatest surviving private art collections in Europe. We are then free to explore at leisure before returning home on the coach.
